Saxophone – Guitar Duo to Perform

Duo Montagnard, comprised of saxophonist Joseph Murphy and guitarist Matthew Slotkin, will perform a recital on Tuesday, Oct.14, at 7:30 p.m., in Marwick-Boyd Fine Arts Center Auditorium. The recital is free and open to the public.

Duo Montagnard was formed in 2002 and has performed over 80 concerts in 20 states, Canada, Slovenia, Greece, and the United Kingdom. Festival performances include the Chautauqua Institution, the Hartwick College Summer Music Festival, the UNC-Wilmington New Music for Guitar and Saxophone Festival, and the Alexandria Guitar Festival.

Joseph Murphy has been the saxophone professor at Mansfield University since 1987, where he has also served as department chair and director of bands.

Having received acclaim as a performer, teacher, and scholar, Matthew Slotkin is one of the most prominent young guitarists in the United States. Appearing in leading venues throughout North America and Europe, he has achieved success in solo performance, chamber music, and as a soloist with orchestra. Slotkin is the director of the guitar programs at Mansfield University and Bloomsburg University.

A saxophone masterclass with Dr. Murphy will be offered on Tuesday, October 14 in Room 231 of the Marwick-Boyd Fine Arts Center. THe masterclass is free and open to the public.
